Past

It is unclear how the familiars of Asmiara gained the abilities to speak or shape shift. There are different stories on how they gained these abilities, but no one knows for certain if any of these stories are true and if so how true they might be. Some of these stories say that it was the goddess Aine who bestowed upon them these abilities in order to safe guard her creation--the witches. Others claim that these talents were the result of witches' magics infusing with them during the many wars of the planet--particularly the Celestial Wars. Than there were the stories that claim that familiars are the decedents of witches who had learned how to shape shift into animals breeding with the actual animals and the resulting children had the abilities to speak and change form.

For some familiar species that ability to speak, and the ability to shift between a human form and an animal one was not the only difference between the familiar and the animals they are said to have descended from. For Desiree people's--the peafowls---the difference is seen in the appearance of their females. In the animal kingdom, the males are the only ones with the decorative train, but within the familiars both sexes have decorative trains. The difference between sexes can be found in their color. Males have the same coloring and patterns of the animal brethren while females appears white. However, a females feathers are far from white. They are just as colorful as their male counterparts, but their colors can only be seen underneath certain circumstances. A fact that make their feathers appear to shimmer or even glow to those looking upon them in these situations.

Female familiars peafowls are, also, rare. So, rare that their society has done everything within their power to seclude the females from the outside world and install within them that males peafowls are the only ones they wish to have a family with. These lessons are not taught to them by the males of their species, but by older females. Peafowls are a matriarchal society where a Queen rule over a large family unit or clan. The Queen's word is law, and it is her duty to ensure that any female pea chick born into her kingdom grows to be a strong and capable Queen. Male Peafowls acts as knights towards a queen and will protect their Queen to their last breath without a second thought. The only being that can stay a male's urge to protect his Queen is the Queen herself. The male will obey his Queen's orders without hesitation no matter how detrimental to her well-being a particular order might be.

A queen will assign any female pea chick born inside their nest knights, who will watch over the female peafowl as she grows and follows her into her own nest when she becomes old enough to leave her mothers. The queen does this in order to cement the belief that male peafowl are the ideal mate. It is believed that if a male peafowl shows himself to be nothing but dependable to the female peafowl at a young age that what she will see him as, and she will have no desire to look for what she needs elsewhere. It was a belief that Desiree's mother followed when Desiree and her two sisters were born.

Their births were joyous news not only for their mother but her entire news. She had been trying for years to have a female child but to no avail---that is until the birth of Desiree and her sisters. Their birth meant security for Desiree's mother. It meant that she had an heir--someone to take over her nest in the event that she died and thus keeping her nest and dynasty from dying out. It, also, meant that she could expand her family line into other nests. Considering the difficulty Desiree's mother had in having a female child, she became extremely protective of them---even more protect than a Queen might be with their female children.

This extreme protectiveness increased when one of Desiree's sisters became terminally ill and eventually succumbed to the disease. Desiree's other sister had no problem accepting their mother's protective nature. She understood where their mother was coming from and saw no reason to rebel---unlike Desiree, who was not as obedient to her mother's rule as her sister. It wasn't that Desiree purposely disobeyed her mother's will. It was just she had a great sense of wonder and awe for the world that she wasn't going to let anyone contain--even her mother. Much to her mother's displeasure and the horrors of her knight, Desiree would often escape the safety of her mother's nest to explore the world outside.

Yet, in spite this Desiree appeared to be her mother's favorite. Desiree's sister didn't understand the reason for this. She thought that the fact she did everything her mother asked without question would gain her great admiration from her mother. It wasn't that her mother didn't love her. Desiree's sister knew this. It was just seemed to Desiree's sister that their mother loved Desiree more. This caused a huge rift to form between the two sister that continued to grow as they aged until they stopped speaking to each other. In spite this, Desiree loves her sister and knows that her sister loves her, as well.

Present

The years drifted by until came time for Desiree and her sister to leave their mother's nest, and it was within that moment that their mother told them which of the two she named her heir. It came as no surprise to anyone---especially her sister---that Desiree was given the honor, but was quit shocked when she refused that privileged. It was within that moment that her sister allowed the anger and resentment towards Desiree being the favorite over her spill out, and their mother was more than happy to explain to her daughters why Desiree was the favored out of the two.

The answer was quite simple by rebelling the way she did Desiree showed herself to be a true Queen. A Queen followed her own path no matter what others tells them. They do not allow themselves to become subjected to the laws of others. Before her sister could respond to those words, Desiree spoke up. She told her mother that was wrong that there was many different types of Queens, and just because her sister was a different type didn't make her any less of a queen. In fact, the type of queen her sister will be is the type of queen that her mother's people needed.

Her sister would rule her mother's people in very much the same manner that her mother did, and since their mother's ways was not bad or wrong that what the people needed. Besides, Desiree's destiny laid elsewhere. She didn't know where, but she felt like there was someone she needed to find outside the nest, and she intended to find that person. She left with her mother blessing, and a sorta mended relationship with her sister and set out to find her witch, because Desiree heard enough story to realize what this calling is.

Desiree soon discovered her witch and she was overjoyed. Her witch name was Everleigh Paxton, and there were many of her kind that will think she truly had been chosen for greatness for her witch was magic herself. This did not matter to Desiree. Everleigh could have been anyone and she would have been overjoyed to find her. They shared a bond where ones title does not matter. They have shared several adventures together, and Desiree knows they will have many more. There are many worlds she wished to see and she wishes for her witch to come see them with her. But, she know there will be adventures each of them will have without the other. This does not matter to Desiree. She knows that whatever the future might hold they will have each other and she cannot wait to see what each new day will bring.
